Reason 5 billion

One of the reasons I love living where I do (and trust me there are many reasons why I miss where I came from) happened to me twice this weekend. I'll be out at a shop or restaurant and someone will walk by or I'll walk by someone and they will be speaking some other language I've never heard. The best part is they don't look like they are out of place or strange. Just regular folk going about their daily business in Tacoma, WA. I'm not sure why it catches me off guard, but it does, but I love it. Our world is slowly shrinking and the nations are all around us. Our neighbors, the lady in Target picking up the same toilet paper you are, the checker at Bartell Drug (seriously the Bartell at 6th and Union the most international staff I've ever seen). I know it t's some people off, but I really like the diversity our well traveled world brings.

To the Asian Market

Waymond and I took a trip to the Asian Market yesterday. I've had several friends tell me it is a cheap place to get food and we have several things that we love that we thought we could find. And, I want to try Soba noodles, which are a buckwheat noodle and I thought I could get a better deal. So, off we went yesterday afternoon. We went up and down every isle looking at everything. It was quite fun. At one point I was looking at something and Waymond says, Leigh look at this. I go over and he's pointing at the ingredients on a can of something. I get close and the first ingredient (all in English) is Gelatinous Mutant Coconut. We were really trying hard not to laugh so loud that we would disturb the other shoppers (or offend). We almost bought it just to see what mutant coconut looks like. I see a B movie coming from this! It's great to be able to fully step into another culture right in your own town! I recommend finding an Asian market near you.

Oh, we bought soba noodles and rice paper for spring rolls and spent less than $3. Nothing gelatinous or mutant, maybe on our next trip.

The movie last night

We went to see Slumdog Millionaire last night, amazing. There were some pretty intense parts but over all a great movie. I enjoyed how they laid out the sequence of the movie. Now I know not everyone has the same taste in movies and I rarely recommend one because of that, but this one was good. It's still playing at The Grand, if you live in Tacoma!

rain, rain, rain

I know it's been a few days since my last post, but really nothing has happened except rain & work and let's be honest that's not too exciting!! I did catch a few moments of sun through the window by my desk yesterday and this morning, but it's back to gray sky's here in the beautiful and flooded Pacific NW! The rivers are still flooding in a few places and the pictures on the news are so crazy. Thankfully we haven't had any problems. The people we bought our home from had put in a really nice pump in the basement, so we've been dry - well the inside has been dry. When ever we leave the house we get really wet. I've been wearing my new rain boots practically non-stop. I work in a relaxed environment (instead of business casual I call it casual casual) so I've been bringing my slippers to work and changing out of my rain boots and into my slippers every day. It's a bonus - who else gets to wear their house slippers at the office, except Stacy who works with me, she knows a good thing when she sees it!

I'm back to 40 hours a week at work and have picked up the duty of Bookkeeper because we've cut down on office staff & overhead. I'm just thankful to still have my job, but don't love Bookkeeping. The owner of our company keeps reassuring me that he isn't going to hold me in that position forever and wants me to go back to just being the Office Manager when we pick up and I'm holding it to him. Bookkeeper will be the first position we hire when we get busy!

I know I haven't posted any pictures of the finished bathroom. Our laptop that holds the pictures has been having screen issues and it might be on it's last leg. I need to take some more and load them on the new computer. I will. Really, I will.

Oh, one last thing - for the tea fans out there, go to Starbucks and try one of their new Tea latte drinks. Oh, so good! I had the London Fog. I told Waymond that it was like a Warm Bergamot Creamsicle! Delightful!

The Mixer

This evening, I tried out my mixer Waymond bought me for Christmas. One word, amazing! Let me tell you that it was fabulous to make my Banana Blueberry Muffins hands free (and they are tasty too)! Everyone who does any amount of baking needs a Kitchen Aid Mixer. Waymond bought the the Professional Mixer so this next week I'll be making bread! I'm so excited!!
