Jesus cookies

Last night we went to a jazz under the stars night at one of the colleges here in Tacoma with a few friends (Jeny, Kandi, Annie & Matt). I'll post a picture when our friend Annie emails them to me. Anyway, Matt had made some oatmeal raisin cookies that we all enjoyed. While eating our cookies our friend Jeny mentioned an oatmeal cookie recipe that we got from our friend in Kansas City (Heather). Jeny said (and I quote) "Those cookies are so good. If Jesus made cookies it would be those cookies. They're that good." I thought I'd share Jesus' Oatmeal Cookies. They really are that good!!

Oatmeal Cookies

1 Cup Shortening
1 1/2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Sugar
1 tsp. Salt
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 tsp. soda
2 Eggs
3 Cups Oats
1 tsp. Vanilla

Cream shortening with sugars. Mix in eggs and vanilla. Stir together flour, salt and soda. Add to creamed mixture. Stir in oats.
Place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 10—12 minutes.

Job

I heard back about the job and they hired someone with a human resource background. I guess I'll be writing more cover letters and sending out more resumes!

2nd interview

Had my 2nd interview this morning...think it went well. I should know something this evening or tomorrow. They said they were going to make a decision by today!

the end is near

Me and our friend Jeny went to Border's last night at 11:00pm to get in line for the new (and last) Harry Potter book, that I reserved (for our friend Jeny) several months ago. It's was a bit crazy. Thankfully I went early that morning (after my interview) to get a wrist bracelet to get a place in line, so we got our book at about 12:45am. Me and Waymond have the paperback books and don't want to get the hardback just to find out what happens, so our friend Jeny (who has the hardbacks) got the book and is spending her free weekend reading it and then is going to let us borrow it. She promised not to say anything until we get it read. In fact, last night when I dropped her off at her apartment (@ a little after 1:00am) she said we might not hear from her because it may be hard not to tell us what happens.

For all my troubles, i.e. reserving the book, getting the line bracelet early, and going at 11:00pm to stand in line with half of Tacoma, she bought me a chocolate frog, which I am enjoying this morning for breakfast! Thanks Jeny!

free night @ the museum

On the 3rd Thursday of every month the museums downtown are FREE! So, we try to take advantage of it. Here is a picture of the glass museum in the hot shop where they demo blowing glass. It's so amazing! Tacoma has a program for high school students where they can take glass blowing as a class. Some of the kids in the picture are high school students. We had a great time at the museum and I ran into a girl I worked with at the mall Starbucks!

Ahhh, I love the Northwest! It's back to overcast, rain and the mid to upper 60's. I'm a lover of the rain, which I guess is good. It's hard to believe it's mid July and our high today is 69 degrees!

gas

I just drove past where I usually buy gas and it went down to $2.96!! I can't believe it. That's very exciting!

Job interview

I have a job interview on Friday with York Enterprises for the Office Manager position. It's kind of crazy the way it all went down! Waymond worked at York when we first moved here. One of the jobs he did with them was entered into some remodeling competition, so one of the ladies in the office has been emailing him with questions about the job. So, last week he just asked if they were hiring for any office positions and she said they were. Apparently they have been interviewing people but hadn't yet found the right person, so I emailed my resume and cover letter in and they called the next day to set up an interview time! And, Waymond's bathroom remodel won the competition! I guess he can put that on his resume!

weddings

Hello every body,

So today I successfully coordinated my first wedding. It was a lot of work before and during, but it was beautiful and everything went off without a hitch! Waymond actually performed the ceremony and he did an amazing job. Everything flowed well and many people came up to me to tell me what a great job he did. What a great team we make...I keep everything organized and he makes sure it's all legal at the end of the day!!

So, Waymond's crabbing expedition was successful!! Here I am eating my crab for dinner. They were very tasty. It was the 2nd time I've ever eaten crab (that I can remember). Everyone took leftovers home because there were enough crabs for everyone to eat at least 2 plus there were about 3 crabs left in the bucket that they didn't cook!

One of the ladies on the boat was asking about local popular cuisine in the areas we grew up in. I couldn't think of a thing that Oklahoma is known for. Maybe some southern type food?

Hot, Hot, Heat

So, it's been a bit hot here the last few days. We broke 80 degrees before noon yesterday which doesn't happen too often. Today we are going to get into the high 90's. I know that doesn't seem too bad for the rest of the country, but keep in mind that NO ONE has air conditioning in their house. The only reprieve from the heat is turning on the air conditioning in your car, but not everyone here owns a car. (Like our friend Jeny who broke down and bought a window unit for her apartment!)

So, despite the heat Waymond is going on a crab expedition today. One of the ladies he works with has a boat and the Habitat team is heading out on the boat today and fishing...hunting...catching...(I'm not sure the correct term) crab. I think I'm going to meet them this evening to eat the catch of the day. Should be exciting. He brought the camera. Should be note worthy! We are trying to be more Northwest, but being from Oklahoma we've never hunted, caught or fished for crab!

Fireworks!

So, yesterday was our 2nd Independence Day in Tacoma. This year we went to some (new) friends house in Gig Harbor. We watched fireworks from the beach in the bay. It was amazing! We could see at least 7 different fireworks displays and tons of other families shooting off their own fireworks. Most people in Gig Harbor have money and apparently they spend a lot of it on fireworks. Who knew just anyone can buy those really big exploded for a few minutes at a time fireworks. We could see this place called Horseshoe Bay. Apparently they spend an equivalent of a 3rd World country's yearly gross income and it's just families who pull together to put on the show. They went on for hours!

We had an amazing time! We were going to take some pictures for the ol' blog, but we forgot our camera. Maybe I'll remember soon.

Looking again!

Well, I heard from Habitat for Humanity this afternoon. Long story short, I'll be looking some more for a job. I keep believing that God has something out there for me. I guess I'll keep looking till I find it.

Our year anniversary

So, on Sunday, July 1st we celebrated our year anniversary of living in Tacoma. July 1st, 2006 we pulled in to Tacoma and unloaded all our stuff in our new apartment.

It's crazy to think that we've been living here an entire year. We've really been loving the Northwest. And our small church plant is growing and developing.

Waymond is on his second job and is looking into going back to school (and finishing this time). Through some random connections Waymond found out about a design school in Seattle taught by professionals who are currently working in the field . He's currently (as of yesterday) registered and is now looking into classes and scheduling and the possibility of being enrolled in August! Very exciting, but could be exhausting!

Starbucks is now in my past (it's been hard to not have the discount) and I've been working as a personal assistant of sorts for a friend of ours. I am waiting to hear back from Habitat for Humanity for the Office Manager position. We'll see if they make a decision this week and if it's me!

Weather update: Sunny, mid 70's, cool breeze, very few clouds. I think we are suppose to make it up to 80 today...we'll see!
