It's finished!

So, today was the last day of building of the Habitat House! And, it's done (at least as done as it can be for now). The family can't move in yet because the city has to approve the plat (don't as me what that is). But, until that happens they can't hook up utilities or get an occupant permit, but when they do it's livable!! The dedication of the house is tomorrow and then Waymond goes on vacation for about 2 weeks. I'll have him take some pictures tomorrow at the dedication. The house looks really nice and the family is thrilled and ready to get moved in.

Day 13 of Building on Faith

So, today is or was day 13 of the building of faith project. Waymond only has to survive one more week and it will all be finished! These are pictures we took this evening when Waymond went back to lock up the "neighborhood" which consists of 4 Habitat houses on a dead end street. The inside and outside of the house is completely painted and all the trim is paint and ready to be nailed in place. All the cabinets will be installed on Monday. There is going to be polished concrete throughout all the house, so the guy is coming tomorrow to work on that so that by Monday all the flooring should be totally finished. Things are well on schedule and are looking good that the house will actually be done by the dedication on the 30th of this month. It's hard to believe that all of this has been done in 2 weeks. Waymond is taking 2 weeks vacation after the house is finished. The first week his Mom, Grandma and Great Aunt will be in town and the 2nd week I think he's just going to sleep and maybe play his PlayStation! I expect that he'll still be in his PJs when I get home from work.

birthday dinner

Our friend Annie's birthday was this last Thursday. For her birthday she invited a few friends over and she cooked dinner. I know, how nice is it that on her birthday she cooks! She did make it clear she didn't want to have to clean up thought, which I understand. So, we went over Thursday evening and had the best dinner of our lives! (Sorry mom!) We started out with some yummy cheese, crackers and fruit and some peach champagne cocktails. Good Start!! Then we moved onto a salad with pears and a blue cheese vinaigrette that she paired with some kind of wonderful white wine. Her parents own a winery, so food and wine are one of her expertise. (For her day job she is a Dr. of Pharmacy) After the salad our main course was a pork roast with a fruit sauce, steamed fresh green beans and ginger and garlic sweet potatoes paired with a red wine. I thought Waymond was going to die of goodness. If you know Waymond even just a little bit you know how he loves good food. Needless to say, he had a good evening! For dessert we had Annie's signature dish, individual trifles. They have lemon curd, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, (that's what I can remember) angel food cake pieces topped with whipped cream and fresh raspberries. She made them the day before so all the flavor melded together and she paired it with a raspberry dessert wine. I cannot begin to tell you have fabulous the entire evening was! Cake for breakfast

Yesterday I picked our friend Jeny up from work and we went to our local bakery for breakfast. We both went a little crazy and had a piece (and when I say a piece, these people aren't stingy!) of cake and an americano for breakfast. I figured it was Saturday and a piece of cake for breakfast on Saturday is OK. This bakery is only a few blocks from our apartment and we want to support the local guy or gal in this case and if having a piece of cake for breakfast is the sacrifice I have to make to help out a local store, well then...

After breakfast (and a few other things) we went to visit Waymond on his work site. You can't believe what these people have done in a week. It's amazing. The house was full of workers
hanging sheet rock when we stopped by. I took a picture of Waymond. One of the guys told me I should get a picture when Waymond gets on the roof. The lady with the blue shirt is getting the house. She's from Uganda.

A Miracle!

So, today on Waymond's build they put in insulation and then they were going to start hanging sheet rock and hopefully finish it tomorrow. When I talked to him at lunch he was so excited because they had made up a day and a half. Apparently that's when things went down hill! As they are putting in the insulation he remembers he has to get an insulation inspection (which is a new thing because he didn't have to have that in KC). He called the inspector's office and left a message asking if there is any way some one could come out today! Anyone who's every needed to get an inspection knows that it's almost an impossibility, but you can't blame Waymond for trying! If they didn't come today nothing on the inside of the house could be done before the inspection which at the earliest it would be Monday afternoon! So, Waymond gets a call from the inspector this afternoon and he says he'll stop by on his way home from work OFF THE CLOCK! I swear if that isn't a miracle I don't know what is! The guy comes by, checks them off and all is well! I think Waymond did more praying between 12:00 - 3:30 than he has all week!!

Day 5 of Building on Faith

Waymond completed Day 5 of the 3 week building project today. Let's see, all the walls are up, the house has been roofed, electric has been run, plumbing is plumbed, tomorrow the city inspectors come to approve it all. Friday and Saturday are drywall days! The house is moving right along. Waymond is racking up the hours at work. He's been getting up early and coming home late every day. I know he'll be ready for his week off in October!

On another note, this cute little cupcake place just opened up downtown. It's called Hello Cupcake. The day they opened some one brought a dozen to our office for a meeting and then a few days later one of the guys from work stopped by and got one for everyone in the office. They are so good! Very yummy! They have this lemon one with a lemon whipped frosting, oh my!! So, because tonight was laundry night (and who doesn't need a cupcake on laundry night) I went by and picked up a few for me and Waymond. The place is super cute. It's kind of modern, yet homey. The workers wear these cute 50's type aprons and they have most of the cupcakes on pedestal cake stands. Anyway, apparently cupcakes are the new "in" thing! Very tasty and you don't have to share like you might if you bought a cake!

Summer time

The weather today is amazingly beautiful. Mostly sunny, warm with a cool breeze. Wonderful! I think if the weather was always like this Tacoma would be overrun with people moving in. But, in a few months the rain and clouds will come.

Waymond's Building on Faith project started on Wednesday. So far so good. He had a good group come in yesterday and he is hoping all the walls in the house will be up today. It's completely crazy to me that a house can be built in 3 weeks, but I guess it's doable! Apparently by next week the house will be roofed. I should have Waymond take pictures to show the progress.

Blackberry Festival

Yesterday Me, Waymond and our friend Jeny went to the Bremerton Blackberry Festival. It was a big disappointment! Not many blackberries. In fact very few vendors had anything to do with blackberries.
To redeem the day we took off exploring the Olympic Peninsula. We drove a couple of hours to a town called Sequim which is near the coast. We did some exploring and found a place to pick blackberries. We came back with 4 lbs. of blackberries. So, we made our own Blackberry Festival!
