Fake Elvis

Last night I went to see an Elvis impersonator at a park in Gig Harbor. It was good, but the whole thing was lost on me having never seen Elvis before. Not even in one of his movies. He had a nice voice. I kept thinking of our friend in Kansas City, Missy who loves Elvis movies. Apparently this guy has won 3rd in Elvis "contests" in Vegas. I guess the people who know think he looks, sounds and moves like Elvis. Maybe I'll get an Elvis movie from the library!

Farmer's Market

I took a long lunch on Thursday to go to the downtown Farmer's Market. I'm so excited because I bought three different varieties of basil to grow. Now that I have a yard I'm finding it hard to not plant a garden, but we thought waiting a year would be smart, but we did discuss planting garlic to grow over the fall and winter. We'll see. Here's my beautiful basil! Eat Local!! Waymond is sharing his work bench in the garage with me, so half has tools and half has gardening supplies. He's so nice.

Way's New Bike

Happy Birthday to Waymond last Sunday. He's been saving for a new bike and thanks to all our generous family members and a few friends he purchased a bike at REI on Thursday. He tested it out around the garage and then took a ride around the neighborhood. He's loving it and now we both have bikes! Just look how happy he is!

I forgot that while I was working Waymond took Carlos and Sara to Seattle for a little coffee and sightseeing and more coffee, and more coffee.



















Top Pot Donuts, the best ever, all four say they saw Dave Matthews enjoying a donut while they were there, but no one talked to him.














Waymond got me a donut for the road, but by the time it got to me it was a little smashed! It was still good!

Slacker Cont.

So after Carlos & Sara left the next weekend we went to a music festival at the Columbia River Gorge (or the gorge), Sasquatch Music Festival. So many good bands and beautiful scenery. The best band in my opinion was REM, I've been waiting to see them for YEARS! They did not disappoint! The Cure was great. Not going to lie, they are as old as a mug, but they were bring it! Biggest surprise, The Hives. I would have never went to see them in concert, but they were playing before one of the bands we wanted to see and they were great. So fun. The lead singer has more energy than anyone I've ever seen. They played in the middle of the afternoon and they got the crowd really into it. If ever you get a chance, check them out.














We did get a little rain, but it's not like we don't know how to prepare and deal with rain. It somehow becomes second nature when it rains 9 out of the 12 months here.














One highlight, if you didn't like the band that was playing, just enjoy the beauty that was around us. Or lay back on the blanket and nap!















How beautiful, right? Sun set on the main stage. I'm trying to remember who was playing...Modest Mouse, maybe Death Cab I can't remember. I'm not kidding, tons of great bands.















We did get to here Flight of the Conchords. If you haven't checked out their show on HBO, its worth it. Ridiculously funny and great live!
We will, I'm sure, try to go next year. Oh, one other highlight, NOT camping. We stayed at a hotel in Ellesburg about 25 minutes away. Completely worth it! I am so not a camper and it is completely doable to go all three days, bring your own food and stay at a hotel.

Slacker

I really haven't been a slacker, just updating the blog has been low on the list of things to accomplish the last few weeks (or month)

Here are some highlights you've missed:
Our friends Carlos & Sara from KC came to visit for a week.

First we took them to have cake at one of our favorite places in town, it was very yummy!















We all (minus Waymond) went to Vancouver BC for a little fun!
The 2nd picture, we stopped at Winchell's Donuts in Seattle before heading to Canada!















Here we are in Vancouver at the best coffee place the world has ever known! Not only do they have fabulous coffee, but they do beautiful coffee art.

No trip with Carlos & Sara is complete without a little sushi! This place was so good. Jeny found it in some book. Notice I love Tulsa, even in Canada!

Baseball Game

I'm not the biggest baseball fan that walks the earth. I'm probably not even in the top 500,000 just to be really honest, but our friends Michael and Tina called the other day and said they had tickets to a Mariners game and I knew Waymond would want to go.

So, we met our friends at the Tacoma Dome bus station and caught the bus to SafeCo field for the game. Our bus ride was great. We walked a few blocks to the stadium and then found our seats. We had the best seats I've ever sat in. I'm not even kidding. We were 8 rows up from the field. We were chatting before the game started and the players were stretching on the field just yards from us and I asked Waymond if any of those guys were famous and he said that I've seen all of them on billboards! It's completely lost on me, but we had a great time.

I feel bad that a bigger fan couldn't sit in the seat we did, but I did have a great time. Two guys broke their bats. The bad news was we lost 10-1. Unfortunately we went to the game before the bench clearing brawl. I would have loved to be on the 8th row for that game! Maybe next year!

Pineapple first

I picked out my very first fresh pineapple at the grocery store the other day and we had it tonight with our fish tacos and it was really good! My friend Malena taught me how to pick a ripe pineapple. Malena is from Mexico where everything is fresh. I learned that the leaves at the very top should put out easily and then you know the pineapple is ripe. I tried it on a few before we found one that worked. Thanks Malena. We had some good pineapple this evening!!!

Correction

So, I need to make a correction on my last blog posting. I stated that if you live in the Tacoma area you are paying $3.40(ish) in gas. Upon filling my gas tank yesterday at Cost-co I paid $3.43, I think and that's the cheapest in town. I drove by a Shell station that was $3.68 a gallon! I'm thankful that I live only a few blocks from where I work.

Another movie option

If you live in the Tacoma area and your funds are going to important things like $3.40(ish) a gallon gas you have to check out the $2 movie theater in Federal Way. Its not the cleanest or most smell good theater, but all the movies are $2 and starting in July all movies are a dollar on Tuesdays, according to their website. For two people its cheaper to see a movie there than to rent a movie and sometimes a girl needs to get out of the house!

Movie

I don't recommend movies very often because you just never know a persons particulars HOWEVER, Waymond and I rented Lars and the Real Girl this last week and I think people should rent it. It was a funny, touching, quality film. We laughed out loud and were sad in a few spots. Quality movie, it really is worth the rent. I think it will reassure everyone that your family is not more crazy than everyone else's.

Spring?

I would like everyone to notice the sky. It has been like that for a long time now. They say it's spring. I'm ready for a little sun shine!

The building is an apartment/office space/ coffee shop in downtown Tacoma. It's a really cool building.

Oh, gray sky I will miss you while you are gone this summer, but I cannot miss you if you don't go away!

Jeny

Our friend Jeny moved in on Wednesday. I think her bedroom at our house is as big as her studio apartment. At least she fit everything in it except for one bookshelf, pretty good. I think her mom is excited she isn't living alone anymore! Hi Tinker, we'll keep an eye out for Jeny for you!

More of the house

New curtains for the front window!! They are a beautiful red!

With some help of several family members we purchased a dinning room table and sideboard. Before a few weeks ago I had no idea what a sideboard was. IKEA is so affordable and they have really cute things! However, you have to put everything together. Waymond freaked out when he opened the box(es) to the sideboard. There were so many pieces it was unreal. But, Waymond has some skills and the table and sideboard are beautiful! We've already had several rounds of friends eating at our table. We even played Simpson's Clue on it the other night.


The finished product! We bought curtains for the dinning room too. Waymond picked out the green. It looks pretty good.

Our friends Deb & Donovan bought us the Orchid. I looks good on the table, but I'm afraid I'm already killing it! I need to do some research on how to keep it alive. I must admit I don't have the greenest thumb, but I try! I've moved it to the kitchen window.

The Living Room

I forgot one of the important details about the living room, it's painted gray! I think it could be darker, but gray none the less!
