Last day of school
Today was Isayas' last day of Kindergarten! They went a little extra to make up some strike days and snow days.
He has grown up so much this year! I think he's been through at least two sizes of pants and shirts.
He now reads at a first grade level and he's tested out of ESL! Who would have thought?
And everyone knows he's drawings are getting better and better.
Here he is on his first day of school last September. He looks so small!
Walking to the bus stop. Waymond took off work today so he could pick Isayas up from school (it was a half day today).
All the boys waiting for the bus.
Off he goes for his last day!

Graduation
This week Isayas had his Kindergarten Graduation! Each child made his/her own hat and got a Diploma; however they still had to go to three and a half more days of school. They haven't figured out Kindergarten skip day yet!
Isayas getting his diploma from his teacher. I think he was dressed like my dad. White sneakers, faded blue jeans and a red plaid shirt. I think my dad literally had that exact outfit!
He has some great friends in his class this year and they all danced together at the "after party" after having cake.

Birthday Boy
Waymond turned 36 on Friday! Among other great birthday gifts he got some that he's wanted since he was a kid.
All three boys put the legos together and have been playing with them all weekend. I'm pretty sure Ermias would bring the X-Wing fighter to bed with him if he could!
All in all I think Waymond had a great birthday weekend & Father's day. I gave him the best gift ever for Father's Day...he got to sleep until 9am!!

Isayas' drawings
Most of Isayas' school work comes home with drawings on the back. I told his teach that I feel like I owe her a ream of paper to replenish what he draws on! She said he's been teaching the kids in his group how to draw so now they all draw on the backs of their papers!
Here are two recent drawings that came home. He's amazing!
Batman and Robin, of course.

Pushing the grass
Waymond gave Isayas a go with the lawn mower last weekend. It didn't take him very long to get tired of it and want to move on. I think he did about six strips, pretty good for a six year old.
I think Waymond is preparing him for the day he takes over, so he can drink lemonade and watch!
Both boys still call lawn mowing, "pushing the grass" and we really haven't corrected them. Waymond now calls it pushing the grass.

Whoopie Pies
I checked out another fun book at the library. It's all Whoopie Pies. I tried the Oatmeal one because they looked like Oatmeal Cream Pies.
Waymond thought they were amazing. I should have gotten a picture of him. In the end Ermias liked them, but the jury is still out with Isayas.
Neither boy wanted any the next day! Crazy, what's wrong with an oatmeal cake with icing in between? I guess they will stick with chocolate!

Scootering Home
I walked to pick up Ermias from school and brought along his scooter. He was so excited. He said, "you don't have the car? Just my scooter?"
One of his friends was in the parking lot getting into his car with his mom and Ermias showed him his scooter and helmet.
He does really well stopping at all the streets, alleys and parking lot entrances along the way. I think he still is a little scared, which is really fine by me! It keeps him from getting hit by a driver who isn't paying attention.
I tell him all the time that he has to watch for cars because he is short they might not see him.

Movie Ratings
Isayas REALLY wants to watch the Batman Begins movie. So, since he asked for the thousandth time the other day I gave him a little lesson on movie ratings (instead of just saying no again). I showed him on the back cover where he could see that the Batman movie was PG13. I explained that means that kids under 13 shouldn't see that movie. He said, "oh, so even when I'm 12 I'll think its scary?" I said, "You might think its scary when you are 14 that's why we help you choose movies."
So then he went through all the movies he wants to watch and checked out their ratings. I told him right now he gets to watch G movies and sometimes PG. He said, "But there is a G in PG13." Ah, kids!!
"Just G, not anymore letters." And I left it at that.

Captain America
Waymond helped the boys make a shield out of an stray plastic bin lid and some old rope.
Ermias likes to pretend he is Captain America and the basketball goal is the villain. He throws his shield and knocks down the villain and wins! He spends a lot of time doing this while we are waiting for Isayas' bus to come in the afternoons.

Rainy days
It has still been pretty rainy here, on and off. Yesterday I put on some music and had Ermias bring up our mini trampoline ($3 garage sale find!). I had him bounce through the first song and then he could rest through the second song and then he had to bounce again when the third song came on.
This is a rest time. He brought his book over so he could just lay down and look at it without having to go get it each time!
It worked a little energy out of him!
