The bell peppers

We finally got a bell pepper from our plant! We have about four or five that are about ready to pick and several other blooms that I'm hoping will produce! Considering the plant only cost me $.50 even one bell pepper has paid for the plant!

Keeping everyone up to date

Just to keep everyone up to date & to ask for prayer, Waymond lost his job this last week! We both know God will continue to provide for us. Waymond is working on updating his resume and getting together a portfolio book. It caught both of us completely off guard, but trust that God has it all under control! Thankfully he has a month severance pay so there's a little room to find a job. However graphic design jobs aren't plentiful! We would love some prayer in this department! We will keep you up to date!

What a day

We have had quite a Saturday! We started off at The Grand theater, an independent movie theater in Tacoma, and saw the old 1970s version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Although we own this movie and have seen it countless times neither of us have seen it on the big screen AND the movie was free!

We came home to do some laundry and Waymond's been working on his resume. The we were off to a house warming party in Puyuallp. We figured since we were already in Puyuallp we would find the new Sonic and have a Cherry Limeade. We found the Sonic but it was packed. There was a five car line waiting just to get a stall and the drive through was about ten cars! We pulled up and parked and walked up to the only open table and ordered. I couldn't believe how busy they were. When the car hop brought us our order Waymond mentioned something about them being busy and she said, oh, this isn't busy! I'm guessing we'll have a couple more Sonics very soon! I think one of the best things about Sonic is their ice!

Lunching

Often while I'm having lunch at work I will sit at my desk and check my emails and get on a few blogs. One blog that I have found is a lady in Singapore who posts recipes and such that she has cooked or is perfecting. Today I was checking her blog and found that she had made a cake for her son's birthday with Oreo cookies and duria. Most recipes I've found on her blog can totally be done here in the US and I can find ingredients, but I had no earthly idea what a duria was and she commented that her younger son protested her making it because he does not like them at all. Well I googled duria and got on wikipedia ~ it's a fruit apparently with a pungent odor! I found this picture.

Apparently the odor is so strong and either people love it or despise it that they have baned them in certain places. Funny. Next time I'm at our Asian Market in town I'm going to look or smell for one. Alfred Russel Wallace said it tasted like "a rich custard highly flavoured with almonds". I like custard and almonds...we'll see! This is what they look like.

The weekend

We spent the weekend in Newberg Oregon at our Celebration NW, which is a gathering of our family of churches here in the NW. We had a great time of envisioning, celebration, worship, eating and hanging out with friends. It is amazing how our family of churches here in the NW has grown and we had loads of people from New Community (our church) who came.

Tomates

Waymond found one red tomato with afternoon, but some kind of bug got to it first! Sad. We have picked a few more tasty yellow pear tomatoes however and few lot more on the way!

Cool again

So, yesterday the high was 69 degrees. I think my tomatoes are in shock. I think they were really enjoying the high 90 degree weather and now we are back to a cool summer. We have had about six ripe pear tomatoes though. Waymond has found most of them and then we'll eat them while we are watering the garden. They are so tasty! I saw another this morning while I was watering. I'll have to pick it this afternoon.

That's more like it

We've finally got back to normal weather around here. Today my desktop thermometer from weather.com said it was 72 degrees at 4pm this afternoon. A very lovely day and a little more like what we've come to expect in Tacoma!

Donuts!

Yesterday we drove to Seattle to one of the Top Pot Donuts locations to watch a donut eating contest and of course to have a donut and cup of coffee. There were loads of people there and was sponsored by three or four different record labels in the area and the local independant radio station, KEXP. Along with his donut Waymond got a poster, pins, and several stickers. A good day.

The guy who won last year won again. He ate something like eleven or fifteen old fashion donuts in five minutes. Crazy! Anyone could submit his/her name to be in the contest. They picked six people plus the returning champion. I didn't think I could even compete and didn't want to ruin the donut experience with having to eat so many in a short amount of time. One guy was drinking iced coffee instead of water while he was choking down his donuts - brilliant. I think he ate four or five.

We had a pretty good seat from the upstairs. We got there early, got a donut & cup of coffee and enjoyed the show. They also had a DJ and a band. It was fun.

Yea!

We are a bit back to normal today!! It's 68 degrees at 11:30am. Oh, the cool breeze is so nice. We might actually be able to sleep in our bed again tonight.

Blazing hot in Tacoma

I'm not sure you can read our thermostat, but it says it's 91 degrees on the first floor of our house and it is 9:45pm. It is freaking hot in our house. I don't even want to know what the temp is upstairs. I took a shower this evening to cool off and my towel felt like it just came from the dryer (and it didn't)! The tile in our bathroom feels heated (and its not). I put my pjs on and they felt like they just came out of the dryer (and they didn't).

So, we borrowed an air mattress from a friend at my work and we are setting up downstairs where it is much cooler. We brought along three fans! I have a feeling we'll both wake up with 20 spider bites BUT we won't wake up sweating! I think we'll be living in the basement until next week.

MileStone

Today I experienced a milestone in my life...I was stung by a bee. I've made it this long in my life without a bee sting and today at work it happened. I went across the street with the owner to take pictures and look at an office & garage that he has for rent (I'm posting it on Craigslist; yet another item on my job description I keep up on all his rental property). He was taking pictures of the inside of the garage so I stepped out so I wouldn't be in the shot. While I was standing on the gravel just outside I saw a weed growing and bend down to pull it and a bee stung me on the arch of my foot. I think I was shocked and when he came out I said, "I think I just got stung by a bee." I spent the afternoon trying to keep ice on it while working. It was difficult and wet.

I always described getting a tattoo like having a bee sting - usually I follow up with I haven't been stung before, but its what I imagine. Today I now know. Having a bee sting is WAY worse than getting a tattoo. Bee sting pain lingers and lingers and lingers. My arch is still hurting and burning. A tattoo you just have to get through it while its happening and then you are done (the itching is another story), but bee stings last awhile.

Its like riding in First Class when flying. I always used to say if you can afford it fly First Class on long trips like over seas and such, but save your money for continental flights and ride coach with everyone else. Then I flew First Class and now I say if you can afford it fly First Class where ever you go!

I've learned my lesson today sometimes you just have to experience something before you can have a correct opinion about it!

Hot, hot, hot!

We are up to 95 degrees and its 2:30! We are definitely sleeping in the basement tonight!

Another hot one

It's going to be hot again today. We are up to 82 degrees at 9:30 this morning. I think we've decided that we are going to have to set up a make shift bed in the basement tonight!

updating

I don't have a temp gauge at home so I have no idea what the temperature is, but I'm sweating at 9:53pm ~ not a good sign for sleeping! I was outside watering the garden just a bit ago and the breeze was still pretty warm. Waymond checked the weather and apparently we are going to have to deal with this until next week! We might be moving our bed into our basement where its much cooler! Crazy!
